Hello Everyone! My name is Xara, and I have been given the honour to be crowned your Miss Jr. Teen Calgary 2021 this past June. Being given this title has been such a humbling experience and I’m so excited to see what this year ahead brings. So what better way to kick off this new adventure, than to introduce myself and tell you my story.
Born in 2006, in Calgary, Alberta, I was surrounded by my amazing Mother and Father. Growing up in a tight oriented family, at an early age I learnt the value of love and was surprised four years later by a new baby brother, who would become my best friend. I often spend my free time with my family going on adventures, road trips, golfing, or simply just laughing at our little quirks. I love my family with all that I am, and am so grateful to have such inspiring people standing by my side throughout all of life’s ups and downs.
As a dedicated student, I just graduated Grade 9 and am so excited to be starting High School this year and taking Advanced Placement Courses. Education is something that I have always held close to my heart, and is something that I am so grateful for. I strongly believe that education is a foundational requirement of investing in your future, and it teaches you so many useful skills for the journeys ahead. This is why I have chosen to support young girls education in developing countries as my platform. But let’s keep that for another post!
Aside from spending most of my time with my family or focusing on school, I have many hobbies that I am passionate about. I love singing, dancing, acting, modelling, golfing, and of course doing pageantry! This is the second year I will be competing at the Miss Teenage Canada pageant and I could not be more excited. Last year was such an enlightening experience that taught me so much, and I can’t wait to use those lessons to improve this year. I’ve been dancing since I was 2 years old, and am currently a senior dancer at my studio working to complete my Advanced 2 Ballet exam.
In my spare time, I also enjoy volunteering. Volunteering is something that I have done since I was very young, helping organize food and clothing drives, volunteering at my Church through the Inn From the Cold program, or helping out with Kids Bible Camp. This passion has carried forth throughout my life. Im grateful that pageantry has given me the opportunity to have an even bigger voice to speak about important causes and issues that we see in our world. This year I had the opportunity to host my Second Annual Longest Drive Competition in support of Children’s Mental Health and was able to raise over $1,400 dollars. Though Covid has put a stop to many other volunteer opportunities across my community, I have been able to execute weekly dance classes for kids around my community throughout the past year to support their physical and mental well being throughout the pandemic. Growing up as a mixed child, I’ve had the opportunity to visit my mother’s home country of Sri Lanka where my family has often made it a point to volunteer at local orphanages. From a young age, I’ve always felt a close connection with these children, and look forward to working with more organizations such as these.
We are just short of one month away from heading to Toronto, to compete at the Miss Teenage Canada pageant and I am so excited to go, and have the opportunity to speak on a national stage about causes close to my heart and meet some amazing young women from across Canada. All of the delegates are incredible young ladies, I am so proud of all they have accomplished and all they will continue to accomplish throughout their journey as titleholders.
I hope you all have an amazing rest of your week and I will be back soon to talk more about my platform. Thank you so much for taking the time to read and get to know me!
Lots of love,
