Happy Mothers Day Everybody!

I hope that everyone had a great Sunday celebrating your mothers and all the incredible things that they do for us everyday without us even realizing. I feel that today we are able to realize how truly lucky and blessed we are for our family and our life. We should think of those who are not as grateful to have wonderful families, and helping those with love, affection and empathy.

My mother is one of the most incredible people that I am blessed to be a part of her life. She works as a family lawyer all day, seeing families splitting a part and trying to help them through what ever they are going through. She comes home and still has the energy to play her harp or piano, walk the dog, and possibly bake some delicious cookies. She is the definition of a super human mother.

What a cutie

I am now going to recite an acrostic poem to you all.

M is for Marvelous

O is for Optimistic

T is for Thoughtful

H is for Happy

E is for Energetic

R is for Remarkable

S is for Strong

I wish every mother out there an incredible day, and another year full of joy and blessed thoughts among your families. I wish all the mothers around our earth to be able to love their children like children were meant to be loved.

“A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie.”

On a usual Sunday morning, you will most likely find me sleeping in, working out, or eating waffles. But I decided that instead of doing something for myself, I would do something great for someone else. This past Sunday I had a fundraiser for my family and friends to raise funds and awareness about Free The Children and what an incredible organization it is.

Craig Kielburger had started this organization for education at the age of 12 not knowing what the future had in store for him at that point. He was on the notion that if nobody was ready for change in the world, he was. With the idea of youth helping youth to create change and make a difference, Craig and Free the Children are now a world renowned organization. I am so glad that the Miss Teen Canada-World Pageant’s charity is Free the Children; making a difference couldn’t be easier.

With this fundraiser in our efforts, and the support of my sponsors, family, and friends, we were able to raise over $4000 for Free The Children! I am so incredibly honoured and overwhelmed with gratitude towards all my supporters. I want to thank everyone who came out to support me and made a donation to this incredible cause on my behalf. Such an incredible feeling to be able to be a part of something larger than yourself.

Hello my loyal followers!

I have had a very fun packed week which included my 18th birthday which I was very lucky to have celebrated at the Fairmont Château Lake Louise with my fam-jam. Being able to see my half sister who just came back from Costa Rica for 4 months, was a great blessing to have her back for my special day. Walking along the beautiful, yet very snowy, lake, having a fun loving dinner and presents, made for one awesome weekend.

I have been having such a wonderful and stressful time planning, and getting ready to start fundraising! I am so excited to raise money for our incredible national pageant charity Free The Children. In honour of my 18th birthday (which happened to be yesterday), I am hosting a large birthday brunch fundraiser for Free The Children for my family and friends in hopes of raising donations above and beyond what the pageant requirements are. I would like to thank all of the donors for the silent auction that will be happening this Sunday for brunch. Including  businesses like Kudos for Wood Furniture, Celebrity Hair Salon, West Edmonton Mall, and the Fairmont Château Lake Louise for their generous donations.

Thanks to everyone who was there with me celebrating my birthday milestone! Here’s to hoping this Sundays fundraiser is a success for Free The Children and education to the world.

xoxo

There is a lot of criticism towards our generation and as Miss Teen Alberta- World, I want to bring faith back into what I know the youth of today can live up to. I want to be able to make a difference in the world and leave a mark on my generation; I want to be proud of myself when I look back on my life and my accomplishments. I want to make the youth of today realize the potential they have and the incredible chances that are given to them by the help of our great country of Canada.

There has been a lot of talk lately about bullying, and if there is any way to ever stop the harmful effects of it. My platform is to help stop bullying, by educating children from a young age, and raising those with low self esteem and worth. I want to stand up for those who do not feel that they can stand up for themselves.  Stories like Rehtaeh Parsons or Amanda Todd’s are completely tragic but sadly not unlikely in today’s world.  I plan to speak at schools to try to make a difference in children before it is too late. I was lucky enough as a kid in school I decided that I was not going to give into the peer pressures of bullying. I recommend to use these simple tips to help deal with bullying:

  • Tell somebody you trust. If you bottle emotions up it can come up in an even more negative way than you could ever imagine.
  • Use Humour. Say something funny to take the pain out of teasing; try not to take it personally, get upset or show it hurts your feelings. If the bullies see that what they are saying is not bothering you, they will most likely move on.
  • Remember that the bully probably has low self-esteem and is teasing to make themselves feel better. Do not feel like the only way to retaliate is to bully the bully; this will make the problem worse.
  • Refuse to go along with bystanders by cheering, laughing, or even just watching, this will just encourage the bully and the bad behaviour. Instead try to avoid the situation until it blows over.
  • If you feel safe doing so, stand up to the bully and take the victims side.
  • TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.

I want to share my experiences through education and try to make our youth more empathetic to those who are in pain even though we may not see it. Remember that bullying happens at all ages, all types of people, all around the world. If you are being bullied, you are not alone and it is best to talk to someone and take a stand in knowing what is right.

All my love,

xoxo

Hello world! Let me just say first of all how honoured and excited I am to be your new Miss Teen Alberta-World. I can not wait to be able to represent my city of Edmonton at the national pageant in July! Just a little bit of information to get to know me; I am 17 years young, a senior in high school and very ready to graduate.

I have always had a love of performing, acting, dancing, and singing (in the shower, and not well) and will take any opportunity I can have to be in the spotlight. I have taken many acting and modelling courses and have acted in short films and despite my height, I love being in front of a camera. I have taken a range of dance lessons that include ballet, jazz, hip hop, belly dancing and modern. I was fortunate enough to be able to go to an arts centred Jr. High School where I took art, video studies, drama, and dance which really helped me find out what I was truly interested in. Art has always had a great influence in my life and I have always been interested in the effects it has on different people. From a very young age I would draw, paint and try to find beauty in everyday life.

DSquared Spring/Summer Runway, in love with the shoes!

My Beautiful Marc Jacobs Classic Q Fran Hobo

I am very interested in the fashion industry and I aspire to become a fashion public relations person in the future. I have always believed that if you look good you will feel good, and I believe that Stacy and Clinton on “What Not To Wear” would agree with me on that. Fabulous designers like Marc Jacobs, Kate Spade, Jeffrey Campbell, and DSquared2 have made such a positive outcome on me and my personal style. Appearance will always be an important part of my life and I will always have pride in what I look like. Although I do find importance on my looks, what will always be more significant in my life is being a good and wholesome human being and treating everyone equally and just.

Volunteering and philanthropy is a very large part of my life and I hope it always will be. I strongly have the belief that when you do good things for other people, you get more than you give. Since my crowning on January 27th, 2013, I have been involved in many charitable events including the Hair Massacure, YouCan Youth Services Comedy Night, The 2nd Annual beautiful ME event, and the Easter Seals/Special Olympics Umbrella Decorating Contest. The feeling of giving back to something greater than yourself is undeniably the greatest feeling that everyone should experience, but sadly there is much ignorance in the world especially with the youth of today. “Free The Children” is an incredible organization about youth helping other youth. It is a global movement about young people being agents of change and helping them to achieve their fullest potential all around the world. I want to make a difference in my generation and leave a positive impact  for the youth of tomorrow.

I have to thank all my sponsors so far that are helping and supporting my endeavours in my hopes to become Miss Teen Canada-World 2013. West Edmonton Mall, Fred Katz Photography, Hatzafon, Kudos for Wood Furniture, Legal Family Crisis Clinic, Galfour Development Corp., and Karen Christian, thank you so much for all the much appreciated encouragement.
