The 2016 Search for Miss Teenage Canada has officially begun!
noun re·sil·ience \ri-ˈzil-yən(t)s\
Resilience; Waking up at 2:30 am to ensure airport deadlines are met, to find your early morning flight has been DELAYED (insert dramatic music sound effects). Although your eyes are stinging from being so tired that you accidentally stabbed your eye with your liquid eyeliner, you patiently wait until boarding is called. After loading the airplane and awkwardly jamming a gown bag through the isles, buckling up, and finally relaxing, the plane roars as it speeds up for take off. However, the pleasant stay is cut short as a screeching halt causes bag to fly forward, and a slightly rattled flight attendant explains that we are experiencing engine failure and need to immediately evacuate. Three EXTRA flights later (that’s right, they ended up flying me to London) and many added hours, I arrive in Toronto at 4:25 to be greeted by 3 other girls in crown and sash attire.
This proud representative of Alberta was ready to take on Toronto to do my thing.
6:30- Imagine stepping into a room and seeing nothing but glitter. Glitter shoes, glitter crowns, glitter dresses, glitter makeup, I could swear the pizza even had glitter on it.
Opening ceremonies. This is it. At this point the Airport Holiday Inn had 65 girls eagerly balancing on their platform heels. The words “extravagant,” “energetic” and “exuberant,” can not only be used to best describe myself, but overall the energy of the room as a whole.
Let’s talk opening ceremonies? There was cake, sparkles, and lots of cheering! Sounds more like a party to me! The constant flashing of cameras and videos didn’t give time for anyone to even consider how jet lagged they felt (although some of us had been awake since 2:30am!). The walls were lined with sponsors who offered everything from chocolate tasting samples, to taking pictures with a bow and arrow, to clothing! To put it simply, it was a blast! (Seriously, we even had a mini golf tournament!)
The night would not have been this fun if it were not for our AMAZING sponsors! They kept us pumped up and fuelled with free products they offered. Nothing keeps your running on less that 3 hours of sleep than some good dark chocolate!
Introducing *drumroll please!* welcoming our SPOONNNSORRRS!!!!
I don’t know about you, but I have an extreme appreciation for art. Nuvango is a clothing line which displays art and abstract patterns on their clothing! Sounds like a “hue”-ge hit! I don’t even know where to st”ART” talking about how fun this was! All of the contestants became walking MASTERPIECES as Nuvango offered designer clothes and a full length mirror for us to try on. What was intriguing about this was every piece was uniquely different! Picasso, not quite, but we all felt as famous as the MonaLisa wearing the offered tanks, shirts, and leggings (one item per person)! Later in the week our ensemble will be making a visit to the Nuvango headquarters (Tuesday July 19) to strut our stuff in style! EXCITING

TALK ABOUT A SUNNY SURPRISE!
No shade was thrown here, as there were FREE (who doesn’t love free stuff, right?) designer sunglasses from V.P.I. Canada, one pair for each lucky regional delegate.
The best part about these sunglasses? The love the camera possibly even more than I do!
Want to buy the exact sunglasses I was wearing? I found them on their website! Simply click the link, and select colour “beige”! They are only $54.99 plus shipping and handling, and they are awesome! I don’t even need to show my attitude if I’m wearing these… These show it enough! Thanks VPI Canada!!
Want? No, need. Seriously.
Everyone knows what a hashtag is, right? Hashtags are a huge asset to social media today, found in Twitter, Instagram, and even FaceBook! Hashtagio is a Social Media Aggregator and User Generated Marketing Platform that was one of the fun displays at the party, collecting all of our crazy social media tagged with the #MissTeenageCanada2016 and then projecting it live at the party on a massive screen! Even better, they make a single feed URL to which our parents and friends can subscribe to (hint hint, I’m talking to you! Go follow right now!) to follow along in REAL TIME as we adventure in Toronto. The flurry of spontaneously issued images and text from all 65 delegates will be archived on this page in the Miss Teenage Canada main site and on the Miss Teen Canada Blog Network / Search for Miss Teenage Canada 2016. But first, let me take a selfie 😉
No better way to draw a girl in than with Chocolate, and Sam Dhutia from Sweets Canada was at the party doing chocolate tastings of all different types of chocolate! Sam was not only hilarious, but very informative and offered THE MOST delicious chocolate tasting exhibit, individually catered to our tastebuds! (No surprise I was offered dark matcha green tea chocolate embedded with edible flowers!). To top off the excitement, he generously gave out (yes, I’m talking for free!) gourmet chocolate bars, and edible flower chocolate bars in little baskets that he personally made depending on each person’s taste! (Mine has matcha green tea jasmine flower chocolate, and white chocolate covered cashews!)
Check it out!
Want to try your own? Sweets Canada is on Twitter @SweetsCanadaCA and so is their parent company Q Foods Canada which tweets from @QFoodsCanada! Don’t miss out on this!
BRADLEE RYALL GOLF ACADEMY
This was my favourite exhibit! Mini golf from Bradlee Ryall Golf Academy! I made my younger brother, who is the Junior Club Champion at a local golf course in my hometown proud, as I got a hole in one on my first try! (Fun fact, my dad earned his first hole in one just last year!) This academy teaches golf lessons at six golf courses west of Toronto, so one day you can be the next Tiger Woods.
Prize? Count me in. On Wednesday July 20th we’re all going to the golf academy to play a one-hole golf game to win two ladies golf jackets (which are prizes from SWING active wear) at the end of our group lessons on two different courses. #makingmybrotherproud
*harnessing my inner Katniss Everdeen*
Align, draw, aim, SHOOT! At the party there was a bow and arrow (with a giant marshmallow on the pointy end, don’t want any eyes getting lost😜) and we all got to take turns harnessing our inner hunter. I almost braided my hair to the side and sought out the baker in the hotel, just to call him Peeta so that I was a “true archer” from the Hunger Games Movie. We’ll ALL be playing Archery Tag in Toronto at Archers Arena on Thursday July 21st 2016. May the odds be ever in your favour.
Although we didn’t meet all of our sponsors in the opening night, there are still some honourable mentions I have to shout out!!
BATA SHOE MUSEUM
We’ll be visiting the Bata Shoe Museum on Tuesday, July 19 at 11:30 a.m. Because WHO DOESN’T LOVE SHOES! I am truly “pumped up” (haha get it, because pumps are a shoe) about this event! Some of the girls said that they are so excited their knees are shaking, and I’m sure it’s not because of the height of their heel is causing them to wobble!
@batashoemuseum and they collect images marked #batashoemuseum
I haven’t seen these yet, but I’m excited to! Having had battled braces, elastics, and retainers for years to achieve my smile, oral hygiene is something I take very seriously. Before the competition I even got my teeth whitened by Cindy at Beautiful you Laser and Spa (she rocks by the way!). Because of this, I was especially excited to hear that Archer’s Dental is one of our sponsors. There will be an awesome selection of high quality Oral B traveler’s toothbrushes specially monogrammed from Archer Dental, as they care about our oral hygiene when we’re away from home competing for a crown.
Miss Teenage Canada Marketing Team
The very last name I need to mention is the man judging this blog post, Rob Campbell. This man has been in charge of the “marketing side” of Miss Teenage Canada for a significant amount of years, and his efforts can not go unrecognized! Thank you for all of the work that goes into your marking and creation of our assignments, as well as all of the marketing and blog work for Miss Teenage Canada. It does not go unrecognized and is appreciated (not to mention also extremely effective) by and to people all across Canada.
Bye for now! Kisses!
Miss Teenage Alberta, Chloë C!
