Hi everyone, welcome to my official blog! My name is Xara Sylvestre, I am 13 years old and I was recently crowned your Miss Teenage Alberta! As Miss Teenage Alberta I’ve been given the opportunity to have a voice and spread awareness on important issues, such as my platform, mental health. I also hope to use my title, as Miss Teenage Alberta, to become an ambassador for girls around the world and help to show them that confidence and beauty comes from within. I am super excited to see what the year has to offer and I will be sure to keep you all updated on these events. But to kick off my blog, I thought that I would dedicate my first post to introducing myself !
To start off, I was born into a family of 4. I have an amazing mother, father, little brother and dog. I come from two very different backgrounds, with my Mother being East Indian and my Father growing up in a small town just outside of Calgary, Alberta. Being from two very different cultures, I feel like I represent what Canada is really about, which is inclusion, diversity and being unique. Schooling wise, I am currently in Grade 8, attending a Catholic School in my community. My faith has always been something that is important to me, and gives me the strength and passion to help others and try to make the world a better place. I consider myself a passionate and committed student who works very hard to achieve distinction on all of my schoolwork. Overall I really enjoy school, and find it1 such an innovative place to learn new things, and better myself.
Aside from spending most of my time committed to school, I like to spend my time singing, acting, dancing, and modelling. I have danced since I was 2 years old, and have been competitive dancing since I was 6 years old. Dancing is something that I have always loved and it is something that allows me to express my emotions, when I just can’t find the right words. I also enjoy singing, for me personally, singing brings me comfort and helps me disconnect from the craziness in life and just be free.. Recently I decided to start modelling and am currently signed with the Patti Falconer Agency. They have been so supportive and this fall I am lucky enough to accompany them to Faces West 2020, a modelling convention in Vancouver. I also really enjoy acting and have acted in my schools last three plays, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins JR, and Hairspray.
Volunteering is also something I am very passionate about and try to do as much as possible. All my life I have been blessed, and by volunteering, it gives me a chance to be the change I want to see in the world. Something I am also very passionate about is my platform mental health (which I will dedicate a specific post to). Mental Health has always been something that has been close to my heart, as it is something that I see my friends, peers, and classmates deal with everyday. Through this pageant, I hope to become a positive role model for teenagers all around the world. As well as spread many messages to them, such as embracing their imperfections.
That is it for my first blog post! Thank you all for taking the time to read. I hope that this gave you a quick glimpse into my life and helped you to get to know me better. I will definitely keep you all updated on my journey as Miss Teenage Alberta. Have a great day!
