My name is Sophia Lia and I am the current reigning Miss Teen Central Alberta 2020! I feel so blessed and excited to be representing Alberta at Miss Teenage Canada 2020. I am 15 years old and currently enrolled at Ecole Secondaire Notre Dame High as a French Immersion student finishing grade 10. This is my first blog post, so I thought I would take this opportunity to tell you a little bit about myself and my platform!
I have always had an intrest in pageantry, and it wasn’t until just recently that I actually took a chance and persued it! Competing at Miss Teenage Alberta was my first pageant ever. Of course the experience came with nerves, but looking back it was an incredible blessing and opportunity. I met some amazing girls with similar values and goals than mine who are also passionate about making our world a better place.
They say that pageantry can become addicting (in a great way, of course), and I recently discovered for myself that they were not wrong… ever since competing at Miss Teenage Alberta, I truly developped a place in my heart for it that I didn’t even know existed. Not only was the pageant itself a phenomenal experience, but everything leading up to it and afterwards is just as amazing. Getting the opportunity to compete at MTC has allowed so many new experiences, as well as another way to promote and bring awareness to my platform.
Since a very young age, I have always been interested in mental health, and more specifically self-care, self-esteem and self-love. It all began when the opportunity at school to join the Student Voice club to stand up against bullying and promote mental health came to my attention. As a young teen, I have witnessed and have seen several other people (myself included) struggle with their mental health, so from there I knew this was a cause that needed some more awareness. When it was time to select my platform for MTC, mental health was the obvious choice as I was so thrilled to have even more opportunity to spread awareness.
Next month will mark my one year aniversary journaling in regards to mental health for Teen Look Magazine and providing an advice column for teens daily obstacles!

A few more of my intrests include academics, modeling, journalism and cooking! I am interested in studying psychology after highschool, as I feel it will really allow me to continue persuing my passion to help others with their mental health! I have always found psychology and the study of the mind very interesting.
This past year has been crazy. From starting my modeling career, to competing at Miss Teenage Alberta and getting to journal about mental health in a teen magazine, I have grown so much as a person thanks to these incredible opportunities.
Thank you so much for reading my blog post, and I absolutely cannot wait to share this exciting jorney with all of you!
